Long weekend in Madison

Happiness is visiting family after Covid. We flew to Madison for Mother’s Day. It was a treat to be together. We had a Mother’s Day waffle brunch and a birthday cake at dinner.

We visited Beth’s garden plot at the community garden.

The size of the community garden surprised us
The garden is off to a good start

We went to a botanical garden (of course).

Beautiful cotton woods by the river

We also went to the University of Wisconsin Arboretum, we never grow tired of this beautiful place.

This is the evergreen forest, it has a magical feel with dozens of different species
We got a little silly as Drew took a picture of us under this beautiful tree

Beth guided us on an 18 mile bike ride around Lake Mendota. We found we could still bicycle without a motor. Great ride!

We were a little tired here just a few miles from home

We did hang out at the house.

A serious game of chess. After a series of losses, Emily has won a few games.
Ready for waffles

This weekend we celebrated Dennis’s birthday. I made him a special card, which works flat or unfolded. It is made out of Dennis’s discarded watercolors from Valparaiso, where wall murals are common.
